Power Supply is Adequate, But Potentially Expensive

The Pacific Northwest is unlikely to face an electricity shortage this summer or for the next five years, according to an assessment by the Council. However, while the power supply is adequate, it may not always be inexpensive. The assessment evaluates both the annual and hour-to-hour capability of the power supply. It was developed by the Council, the Bonneville Power Administration, and a broad array of other energy stakeholders.

Science Panel Recommends Innovative Fish and Wildlife Projects for Funding

Five fish and wildlife projects submitted in the Council's innovative project solicitation have been recommended for funding by the Independent Scientific Review Panel. The ISRP judged the top five proposals for immediate funding; an additional four proposals, while offering potential valuable contributions to the Council's fish and wildlife program, did not stand out as innovative. The Council Updates Its Fuel Price Forecasts

The Council is releasing its revised fuel price forecasts for public comment. The updated analysis addresses natural gas, oil, and coal prices and forecasts, and is not expected to have an effect on the near-term actions recommended in the Council's Fifth Power Plan. It is also likely that higher fuel prices will translate into higher forecasts of electricity prices, and a revised forecast will be developed for electricity as well.
