Recommendations for amendments to the 2000 Fish and Wildlife Program

Dear Northwest Citizen:

In January, the Northwest Power Planning Council issued a notice that it was amending the Columbia River Basin Fish and Wildlife Program and called for recommendations for amendments. The Council's notice specifically called for recommendations for amendments at the basin and province level; a call for subbasin level recommendations will be issued after these basin and province-level amendments have been completed.

Below you will find an index listing each of the recommendations received by the Council by the May 12, 2000 deadline. Using this index, you can view portions of the recommendations or download the entire recommendations in electronic form from the Council's web site. Most recommendation documents are in Microsoft Word 97 format, but a few consist of several Word or Excel documents compressed into "self-extracting zip" format. Instructions on how to use these files appear on the web site. Please note that when we did not receive an electronic version of a recommendation, we scanned the printed copy to produce an electronic copy. Scanned documents may contain unintended format or spelling errors. Please contact us if you have questions about any document.

[The comment period ended June 20, 2000. Skip to recommendations.] As required by law, the Council is now seeking public comment on the recommendations for amendments. Written comments on these recommendations must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Pacific time on June 20, 2000. The Council will also receive oral comments on amendment recommendations at the June 6-7, 2000 Council meeting in Portland, Oregon.

You can comment on the recommendations via e-mail at comments@nwcouncil.org. In the subject line of the e-mail, please reference the index number that has been assigned to the recommendation(s) and the name of the recommendation sponsor. Also, please provide your name or the name of the organization you are representing near the beginning of your comment(s). Although comments should relate directly to one or more of the attached recommendations, there are no additional format or content requirements.

You may also submit comments in writing to the Council, directed to Mark Walker, Director of Public Affairs, Northwest Power Planning Council, 851 S.W. Sixth Avenue, Suite 1100, Portland, Oregon 97204. Please title or caption your submission as a "Comment on Recommendation(s)," and reference the index number(s) of the recommendation(s) you address.

After the comment period closes, the Council will develop a draft program amendment that will be made publicly available after its August 10, 2000 meeting. Public hearings on the draft program amendment will be conducted throughout the region in September, and a final program amendment will be adopted by the Council at its October meeting.
