Independent Economic Analysis Board job description

IEAB members will participate in an advisory capacity to the Council on the economics of fish recovery actions. The IEAB may review potentially applicable studies, be assigned new studies or questions to address, and recommend ways in which economic analysis could contribute to improved decision making for the Council's fish and wildlife program.

The frequency of general meetings of the board will be determined by Council requirements. In this sense, the IEAB operates much like a typical Council advisory committee. In addition, board members would be available to perform specific research tasks as assigned by the Council. Members would be reimbursed for their time and travel expenses in accordance with Council policy.

General IEAB meetings typically would be held for the following purposes:

The Council will make specific requests of the IEAB to answer questions, review studies, perform analyses, or accomplish other tasks. For example, an initial task might be to review and evaluate several studies that have been done already in the region and discuss their applicability for the Council's purposes. A second task might be to structure the basic elements of a valid economic analysis for fish recovery measures which would guide the IEAB and Council's own studies and help in evaluating studies done by others in the region.

Selection criteria for IEAB members:

  1. Qualifications and experience in areas of economic analysis relating to fish and wildlife policies or the potential effects of those policies on other sectors of the economy
  2. Ability to provide credible advice and analysis that is objective and independent, and widely perceived to be so
  3. Familiarity with Pacific Northwest salmon policy issues
  4. Contribution to a diversity of relevant expertise on the IEAB
