Energy Fifth Power Plan System Analysis Advisory Committee

System Analysis Advisory Committee

Chair: Michael Schilmoeller
Vice-Chair: John Fazio

The Council is developing a new Power Plan, to be completed in draft by Summer 2004. Most of the issues to be addressed in this Plan require risk and uncertainty assessment. The roles of power system economic and operational uncertainty in general, and electric power and gas price volatility in particular, are central to evaluating these issues. Council staff has proposed adding portfolio analysis techniques to the set of evaluation tools the staff would use in the next Plan. Although in many respects a well established technique, portfolio analysis relies on specialized techniques, assumptions, and data. The System Analysis Advisory Committee (SAAC) provides peer review over and guidance on this endeavor.

The System Analysis Advisory Committee is a forum for sharing information and expertise about portfolio-based risk management data and techniques. The participants in this group have been chosen because of their technical knowledge in the areas of finance, multivariate statistics, engineering economics, or power systems planning and operation.
