In an effort to further improve the efficiency of electricity use in the
Northwest, a volunteer organization of regional leaders of electric utilities,
businesses, government agencies, environmental groups and energy efficiency

The Northwest now has an early-warning system for potential electricity
shortages and high prices to consumers.
"It's like a smoke detector for the regional electricity supply," said Bill
Booth, chair of the Council, which adopted the early-warning system this week
for its own power system planning.
